One of our customers who has received support from our Redcar team of Independent Domestic Abuse Advisors, has made the decision to share publically her experiences. She has done this to show support for other women who may be experiencing abuse to encourage them to seek help.

We previously shared Carol’s story anonymously as a success story (you can read it here) as her incredible bravery is inspiring. To mark International Women’s Day, we would like to share with you two pieces written by Carol.

In this post, Carol has re-written the well known Frank Sinatra song, My Way, with lyrics reflecting her own story:

And now the end has come
And so I face the final court room
I sat and faced my fear
And state my case of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life of hell
I felt the pain that he gave me
But no, no more of this, I’m doing it my way

Regrets I have none.  For what you done there’s lots to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each court and case, I walked the steps along the court way
And more, much more than this, I’m doing it my way

Yes there were times I’m sure you knew
You beat me up and made me black and blue
But through it all I came out strong
Now you’re in jail, that’s where you belong
You made me grow, my actions show
That I’m doing it my way

I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my share, my share of beatings
And now as tears subside I know I’ll never be defeated

For what’s a man who beats a girl
He’s not a man, not in this world
But I grew strong and I fought back
You paid the price for those attacks

Cos Carol’s doing it her way

BUT I’m doing it my way
