It may seem that Christmas is a distant memory for most. At Foundation, many teams were busy ensuring that their customers could take part in celebrations. Many of Foundation’s customers live isolated lives and without support would spend much of the festive season alone. Below is an update on some of the festive activities that took place across Foundation.

Sincere thanks to everyone who has supported Foundation and our customers in 2016.

We wish you all the very best for 2017!

Calderdale Christmas Dinner.

The Calderdale Team arranged a Christmas Dinner for their customers!

We appreciate that not everyone enjoys Christmas. Many of our customers find Christmas a lonely time as they do not have a lot of friends or family, many also receive a low income so can struggle financially at this time of year.

The team arranged for the customers to go to the Watermill for their dinner, they had the choice of two or a three-courses depending on how much they chose to pay.

It was a great social event, the place looked very festive with all the trimmings and both staff and customers really enjoyed themselves!

Leeds Adult Offender Team Christmas Party

Ruth from the Adult Offender team in Leeds shares the success of the customer Christmas party:

On 21st December, the Adult Offender team organised a Christmas Party for their customers. Party food, quizzes and a raffle were all included. Customers really had a special afternoon and were thrilled at their gifts donated by many of the staff from Foundation. With thanks to the money made from the Breakfast Sandwiches, the team were able to raise over £200! It was a fab afternoon for all. All the leftover food was donated to St Georges Crypt in Leeds.

Pret a Manger Foundation event at Victoria Gate, Leeds.

Alongside activity within Foundation, our long standing supporters, the Pret Foundation, were doing more to raise money and awareness of the plight of homeless people seeking employment. Here is Support worker, Brent’s write up of this fantastic event:

Pret a Manager Foundation host a fundraising/awareness event in Leeds every Christmas. The aim is to promote their apprenticeship scheme supporting the homeless and ex-offenders into employment.  This year the event was held in the prestigious Victoria Gate.

The event raised £310.56, but equally, if not more important, it raised awareness of the barriers to employment homeless people can face. Castleton Primary School year 6 choir, fronted by music teacher Jayne Leadbeater, did a splendid job entertaining the public of Leeds.

A massive thanks to Steve Flannigan and his band ‘Lucy’s Shoes’, Tom Cassidy and Vicky Dean. This is the second year they have freely given up their time to support this event and do a great job creating a festive atmosphere.

Last, but certainly not least, our appreciation goes out to our very own customer, Kerry from York. Kerry is approaching the end of her apprenticeship at the Pret a Manger Leeds station shop. Staff at the shop are delighted with Kerry’s progress. Kerry assisted in making all the children’s sandwiches, as well as generally supporting the event.
