Since inception, Foundation has specialised in offering Adult Offenders housing related support. This essential work offers individuals a chance for stability and inclusion. Foundation works hard to ensure the safety of their customers and build inclusive communities where everyone matters.
Kirklees adult offender’s scheme provides both floating and accommodation based support – its target is to reduce re-offending as a result of the housing related support we input. We work in partnership with Probation, Lifeline, ONTRAK and have links to mental health services. We work in a holistic way to promote independence and support is tailored to the individual’s needs. We carry out support planning sessions and conduct a comprehensive risk assessment based around the customer’s offending issues and personal circumstances.
The support encompasses independent living skills, offending issues, relationships, drug and alcohol issues and relationships. We also signpost to other specialist agencies such as mental health and social services where appropriate.
We work with the whole spectrum of offences from relatively minor such as shoplifting and car crime, up to the high risk offences such as MAPPA (Multi Agency Public Protection) and customers on a life licence.
The scheme has been established in Kirklees for a long number of years and 8 staff are currently employed to deliver the service. Along with home visits and office contacts staff also deliver FITKIT (Foundation Inclusion Tools) training modules which involve assisting customers with independent living skills and developing confidence and choices. We also run twice weekly drop ins at both Huddersfield and Dewsbury probation offices which gives us the opportunity to be on hand for any queries or urgent referrals from probation officers. FITKIT sessions are also run for probation clients on a weekly basis.
Kirklees team is well established within the locality and has a good reputation for being inclusive and working with the most chaotic of customers and achieving positive outcomes. Working with Adult Offenders can be something that challenges public perceptions. However, we know from experience that some individuals can turn their lives around and become valued members of the community. Our priority is for our customers and the community to be safe and inclusive.
