Our thanks to The Gas Safety Trust, the UK’s leading gas safety charity, who very kindly donated 100 audible carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to Foundation.  The detectors have been fitted into stock properties and which will allow vulnerable young people and adult offenders in Leeds to stay safe and avoid any possibility of suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Steve Woodford, CEO, says:

“We are really pleased to have received the 100 audible carbon monoxide alarms from The Gas Safety Trust and appreciate the gesture, particularly in such tough economic times. Here at Foundation we consider Health and Safety matters for our staff and the people we support as a real priority.  Because of this we have welcomed the opportunity to help distribute the alarms to these very people.”

Nigel Dumbrell, Head of Charitable Operations at The Gas Safety Trust comments:

“Carbon monoxide is an odourless, invisible, and highly toxic gas, in which there’s no other way to detect its presence other than through an audible carbon monoxide alarm.”

“The protection of vulnerable groups of individuals and their families is paramount to the work The Gas Safety Trust undertakes throughout the United Kingdom.  We hope that providing this support to Foundation, we will ensure even more people’s safety.”

Recent research by The Gas Safety Trust highlights the seriousness of the matter even further with statistics showing that, over the reporting period, 1st July 2008 to 30th June 2009, carbon monoxide poisoning was responsible for 17 deaths and 96 casualties in 56 incidents across the UK.

The Gas Safety Trust was established in 2005 as a registered charitable body with the key objectives of further improving gas safety throughout the UK and reducing the incidents of death and serious injury from carbon monoxide exposure.  For more information visit www.gas-safety-trust.org.uk
